We were supposed to be on holiday this week, somewhere in South Australia by now I think, but having played basketball the night before we were to head off, I experienced something that has never happened to me before. I was on the wrong end of a concussion and forgot pretty much everything that happened from Sunday afternoon until the middle of Sunday night, and Monday morning while I remember it is also a bit vague.
Apparently, as far as I can recall, I was fighting for a loose ball, fell, and hit my head on the floor. I don’t think that I ever lost consciousness, but I was probably quite confused and running in circles. I remember lying in bed on Sunday night having random conversations but don’t remember what they were about (my short-term memory was resetting every two minutes I am told), and it was probably only when I woke up on Monday morning that I realised that I had suffered a concussion., but my memory had not recovered and everything that I could remember was a bit vague and seemed like ages ago. In the afternoon I was making phone calls to the hotels to see if we could re-schedule our holiday to a week later (which we could fortunately), but I did call a couple of them twice, not remembering that I’d already called them. That’s all for now, we’re leaving on Monday again, no basketball this Sunday (we lost), I’m done for the year, so hopefully nothing gets in the way of us departing then. There should be video of the game, so when it comes up I will update this post if they captured what happened, I need to watch the game to see how it went anyway because I can’t remember playing at all.
Okay, so here is the video (I’ve moved it straight to when it happened, but it’s within the first 40 seconds of the game, I think I started showing signs of confusion a couple minutes before half time, and they took me off with just under 14 minutes to play in the game (we were up two at the time, but eventually lost):
Should have been a charge, am I right?

So I’ve been waiting till the end of the season to get League Pass cos that’s when the Spurs play a lot of games and I was thinking of getting the playoff package too and finally got around to logging into the international league pass site (or nba.tv as it is now known). Little did I know that the package structure had changed, the last time I got ILP it was possible to get on a monthly option (you still had to manually opt out by sending an email to customer service, no way to do it in your account yourself) to see all games, the only option that I could see that seemed remotely close to that was the regular season and playoffs package.

But the wording is a bit confusing (if you are like me and remember having a monthly option any way), you can pay for the regular season and the playoffs either in one lump sum or four easy installments. I thought that might have been the one but it still didn’t seem right, considering it said four installments and the fact that there is only one month left in the season. So I checked out the Customer Service FAQ page, and apparently there is no option to pay even a pro-rated amount to just get the rest of the regular season. I didn’t even think that the monthly option was that great, I always thought that the model should have a pay-per-view option, or even pay for a specific day rather an having to commit for a whole month, but the NBA in all their wisdom went the other way and force you to subscribe to the whole season. Especially during this shortened, fatigue-riddled season of low quality basketball every second night, they force you to pay for a whole season that never was! Any way, I’m not paying for eight months worth of viewing that only lasts me for one month, I only want to watch the interesting part, the end of the season. Lame, Stern, lame, you need to quit and let someone else do a better job.

I think these are the 2010 issue, so nothing spectacularly new about them, but having worn them a few times now, I thought I’d post a bit about them. I think I wore them once last season in the season finale before reverting back to my Kobe IV’s for the start of this season. They’re pretty much the same everything, height, weight, feel, comfort (especially now that I’ve gotten used to the Hyperfuse’s), so I’m pretty happy with them, I might switch back to the Kobe’s before the season is out, cos they still have a good sole or I might wear those on Wednesday’s when my Lebron’s wear out, though they are still going very strong as well. Anyways, this colourway is really cool, it even matches our uniform, I think I have pretty good lift in them, I went in for a layup and touched the rim (which is my excuse for missing it!) without actually trying to do that (I got the ball back to put it in anyway). The grip feels good and I reckon I move around the court pretty well, as well as I did before, although I could work on my defense a bit. I give these a thumbs up, and will probably continue to go with this line of low cuts at this weight, I don’t need even lighter shoes, these (and the Kobe’s) feel just right.
